Office Initiatives

Halliwells' commitment to Corporate Responsibility has been realised in the environmental initiatives that have been implemented at 3 Hardman Square.

• All Spinningfields buildings are designed to achieve Excellent BREEAM ratings.



• Energy saving devices, such as motion sensors which turn lights off when no movement has been detected for a period of time have been built into the structure.



• Water usage is also minimised.



• To further reduce energy usage PCs are fitted with energy efficient power supplies that reduce power consumption. Staff are advised to turn off electrical items when they are not in use and to switch off PCs and monitors at the end of the working day.


Reducing the amount of energy and natural resources we use is the best way to help the environment. Of the resources we do use, we try to procure as much as we can from sustainable sources. Some waste is inevitable and therefore we recycle as much of it as possible.

ISO 14001

To demonstrate our commitment to the environment we aim to achieve the ISO 14001 international accreditation for Environmental Management in 2008.

Recycling

Our target is to recycle 60% of our waste with a view to raising this figure. Our catering facilities also reflect the firm's green thinking ethos. Fairtrade products are sold in vending machines throughout the building, with recyclable cups being turned into stationery to reduce waste. The plastic containers for salads and sandwiches etc are capable of being recycled.

In order to reduce food miles and support local suppliers, food prepared for Café Vista and hospitality is sourced locally where available. Catering is organic where possible.

Waste management

We have been instrumental in getting the building management at each location to enter into contracts with waste disposal companies that have the facility to segregate the office waste off site and recycle everything that is possible to recycle.

This means that all of the office waste collected each day by our cleaners all goes through an off site separation and segregation process which means very little of our office waste is going to landfill.

We are compliant with the disposal of fluorescent tubes and all printer cartridges are collected and recycled.

Confidential waste is taken off site and shredded and then put into the recycling process.
