CORPORATE and SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Aware of the social context of our business, we undertake to support local and national charitable organisations.

In April 2006, our trainee solicitors were involved in a fashion show in association with Breakthrough Breast Cancer, where professionals from many blue chip organisations took to the catwalk for charity.

Members of the Firm get involved in fundraising and charity events throughout the year. The London Marathon, the Four Peaks Challenge, the Wilmslow Half Marathon and Manchester's 'It's a Knockout' competition are just some of the events that have included Halliwells' teams.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

Get a Head Start: The LPC+

In conjunction with The College of Law, Halliwells offer their future trainee solicitors a place on a tailor-made LPC+. The Halliwells LPC+ allows you to build a network, with your Halliwells colleagues, to meet study and discuss with them and to give you a solid support network which will last throughout your professional career.

Halliwells Induction

Before embarking on your first seat, you will undertake our two-week induction programme which incorporates part of the Professional Skills Course. Amongst other things, the induction includes a meeting with the firm's Managing Partner, an in-depth Trainee Research workshop to arm you with the tools you need to find the right solutions to client problems and Networking Skills training prepares you for the social gatherings and marketing events that you will attend as a Trainee.

The Professional Skills Course

We integrate the Professional Skills Course into the Training Contract by providing half-day workshops at the start of most seats to prepare you for the work you are about to undertake.

Real-Life Experience

Our Training Contract is structured into five seats of approximately five months each which provides you with the opportunity to undertake work in more areas of the practice. To assist you in making a seamless transition from Trainee to Newly Qualified Solicitor, we aim to place you in the department where you would like to qualify for your fifth and final seat.

In every seat, you will be allocated a Supervising Partner and a Daily Supervisor who will help you to develop to your full potential.

Halliwells' trainee solicitors are valuable members of every team they join. Our Trainees are legal professionals and are treated as such, they use their initiative, they get involved and they deliver work of the highest standards. Trainees are involved in real client matters and on occasion support the client directly via secondment to the client's business.

Sarah Lawrence, Trainee Solicitor, Manchester "At Halliwells even as a trainee you are given a lot of responsibility and client contact".

HALLIWELLS SUMMER PLACEMENT SCHEME

We run a Summer Placement Scheme at our Manchester, Liverpool and London offices which offers university students the opportunity to experience life in our Firm.

The placement scheme lasts for two weeks and during that time; students will work in three different departments and receive full training in Information Technology and Information Services.

Candidates for the Summer Placement Scheme are selected on the basis of their online application alone.

APPLICATION PROCESS

We operate a joint online system for Summer Placement Scheme and Training Contract applications.

If your application for a Training Contract is successful, you will be invited to attend an Assessment Day at the office you have applied to. The day will consist of an individual presentation, group and written exercises and a panel interview.
