The First Woman in Football speaks at Halliwells Conference!

On Thursday 15th September over 150 delegates attended the Third Annual Corporate Recovery and Turnaround Conference at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.

The conference was attended by delegates from the region's leading commercial, corporate, accountancy, banking and asset based lending sectors and focused on the practical and legal issues which have arisen in corporate recovery over the last year.

Karren Brady, managing director of Birmingham City Football Club and known as "the first woman in football" was a guest speaker at the conference and gave an entertaining account of the sheer hard work and determination needed to achieve the turnaround of the club from administrative receivership in the early nineties to its current profitability and plc Status.

Said Karen:

"In life there are people that make things happen. The key in any business is a successful management team made up of people possessing such qualities as leadership, ambition and positive attitude."

Andrew Buchanan, Halliwells National head of corporate recovery chaired the conference. He commented:

"Corporate and personal insolvency is constantly evolving- recent changes as a result of new legislation and case law mean that insolvency specialists need to be aware of such diverse areas as pensions, employment, tax, licensing and intellectual property. This is the third year we have held the conference and it attracts a larger and wider audience each time." A further conference is planned for September 2006.
